1

Within 14 days of your last day, file a 'separation notification' (reporting your departure from the former employer)

2

Within 14 days of your first day at the new company, file an 'affiliation notification' (reporting your joining of the new employer)

⚠️

Important notes

Failing to notify may result in penalties or adverse treatment in future residence applications (Immigration Control Act Article 19-16)

Permanent residents, spouses of Japanese nationals, spouses of permanent residents, long-term residents, and family stay visa holders are exempt from this requirement

If your new job is in the same field, no change of status is needed. However, if the job type changes significantly, you may need to apply for a change of residence status separately
