Notification of Change of Affiliated Organization

Foreign nationals holding work-type residence statuses (Engineer / Specialist in Humanities, Specified Skilled Worker, etc.) are required to notify the Immigration Services Agency when changing jobs. You must file a separation notice within 14 days of leaving, and an affiliation notice within 14 days of joining your new employer.

🗂️

Steps

1

Within 14 days of your last day, file a 'separation notification' (reporting your departure from the former employer)

2

Within 14 days of your first day at the new company, file an 'affiliation notification' (reporting your joining of the new employer)

3

Choose your notification method: ISA online system, postal mail, or in-person at the immigration office

⚠️

Important notes

Failing to notify may result in penalties or adverse treatment in future residence applications (Immigration Control Act Article 19-16)

Permanent residents and long-term residents do not need this notification. Those on Dependent, Spouse or Child of Japanese National, or Spouse or Child of Permanent Resident status also do not file the affiliation notification — but if they divorce or are widowed, a separate notification about the spouse is required within 14 days

If your new job is in the same field, no change of status is needed. However, if the job type changes significantly, you may need to apply for a change of residence status separately

Online notification requires prior registration on the ISA online system

When filing online through the electronic notification system, you do not need to submit supporting documents. At a counter, present your residence card with the form; by post, send the form and a copy of your residence card to the Tokyo Regional Immigration Bureau
