Driver's License Address Update

If you have a Japanese driver's license, you need to update your address after moving. This is done at your nearest police station or driver's license center.

✓Residence Card or residence certificate (juminhyo) showing new address

Steps

Complete your move-in notification first so your new address is reflected on your Residence Card or residence certificate

Visit your nearest police station or driver's license center

Fill in the address change form and submit your license and proof of new address

Your new address will be printed on the back of your license

Move-In Notification

Register your address at the city or ward office of your new location. If moving from within Japan, you must complete the move-out notification first. If arriving from abroad for the first time, no move-out certificate is required.

Residence Card Address Update

After moving, your new address must be recorded on the back of your Residence Card. Present your card when submitting your move-in notification (or change-of-address notification if moving within the same city) and it will be handled at the same counter.
