Residence Card Validity Period Renewal (Permanent Resident)

While permanent resident status itself has no expiry, the residence card must be renewed every 7 years (for those under 16, it expires the day before their 16th birthday). The required documents are minimal, there is no fee, and the new card is generally issued on the same day.

Steps

1

Check the expiry date on your residence card (printed in the upper right). You can apply from 2 months before the expiry date until the expiry date (for those under 16: from 6 months before the expiry date. For cards issued on or after November 1, 2023, the expiry date is the day before the 16th birthday, so the window starts 6 months before that day)

2

Download the 'Residence Card Validity Period Renewal Application' form from the Immigration Services Agency website and fill it in

3

Prepare a passport-style photo (4cm × 3cm, white background, taken within 6 months before application) — generally not required for applicants under 16, except when renewing a card whose expiry date is the applicant's 16th birthday or the day before it

4

Bring all documents to your regional immigration office counter to apply (no fee required)

5

Your new residence card is generally issued on the same day
